January Mittens Tammikuu lapaset

Tämä lapasmalli on ollut minulla pitkään keskeneräisenä, varmaan pari vuotta. Olen kokeillut sitä eri värityksillä, enkä vaan ole ollut tyytyväinen.  Jotenkin ne eivät ole tuntuneet oikeilta.
Nyt tammikuun loppupuoli oli hyvin kylmä ja luminen, ja siitä sain inspiraation kokeilla valko-harmailla väreillä ja vihdoin tulikin oikein hyvä! Ainakin omasta mielestäni:)  Luminen talvimaisema koivikossa, valkoista ja erilaisia rusehtavan harmaita. Lapasen nimi on Tammikuu, ja sitä on nyt saatavilla tarvikepakettina kaupassani.

IN ENGLISH
I have been struggling with this mitten for a long time, at least two years. I have tried it with different colors, but haven't been satisfied. Somehow it hasn't been right.
Now this year January has been cold and very snowy, and it gave me inspiration to try with white and grey colors, and the mittens turned out very good! At least I think so:) A snowy scenery in birch forest with white and different shades of grey and brownish grey.
These mittens are called January, and I have them now in my shop as a mitten kit with yarn and instructions.

Drumstick Primrose Mittens Palloesikko lapaset

Tänä vuonna tulee 25 vuotta siitä kun äitini suunnitteli meille ensimmäiset lapaset, ne olivat Vanamo-lapaset, joita meillä on edelleen myytävänä tarvikepakettina. Vanamo on ollut hyvin ajaton malli, ja myynyt tasaisesti vuodesta toiseen.

Palloesikko on myös malli, jonka äitini piirsi jo 1990-luvulla, mutta se jäi välillä unohduksiin. Nyt muutin pikkuisen kuvioita ja tein lapasen uusilla väreillä jotka ovat minusta oikein onnistuneet. Pohjaväri on edelleen lampaanmusta. Vihreä on värjätty väritattarella ja pietaryrtillä, vaikka myös koivunlehtien ja väritattaren yhdistelmällä saa samanlaista vihreää. Kukkien värit on värjätty kokenillilla ja krapin ja kokenillin sekoituksella. Palloesikko-tarvikepaketti on nyt kaupassani.

Äitini kasvatti itse ensimmäiset palloesikkonsa siemenistä, ja siitä lähtien palloesikko onkin viihtynyt hyvin heidän puutarhassaan kukkien pitkään toukokuussa. Minun puutarhassani se ei valitettavasti viihdy yhtä hyvin, vaan vaatii muhevampaa maata, mutta itsekin pidän siitä silti paljon. Alla olevat kuvat on siskoni Henna Rajala ottanut äitini palloesikoista muutama vuosi sitten.

This year it is now 25 years since my mother Liisa Rajala designed the first pair of mittens for us. They were Linnea-mittens, which we still sell as a kit, it has been a steady seller all this time.

Drumstick Primrose is also a design which my mother draw already in 1990s, but for years this pattern has been forgotten. Now I updated it, and knit it with new colors. The basic color is still Natural Black. Green is dyed with japanese indigo and tansy (birch leaves also give the same shade with japanese indigo). Plum is dyed with cochineal and red with a combination of cochineal and madder. Drumstick Primrose Mitten kit is now available in my shop.

Drumstick Primrose thrives in my mother's garden, and it flowers a long time in May. In my garden it doesn't do as well, my soil is not as rich in humus as the soil in my parent's garden, but I like it a lot all the same. With Love Mittens Rakkaudella -lapaset

Nyt on valmiina toinen talven pakkasten aikana tekemäni  lapasmalli. Tässä on sama reunamalli kuin Tammikuja-lapasissakin, ja keskellä olevat sydänkuviot ovat äitini piirtämät sydämet, samat kuin Onnenapila ja Blue Hearts -lapasissa. Kokeilin erilaisia värityksiä ja päädyin tähän.
Väreinä näissä lapasissa on tummaa rusehtavan violettia ja kahta viininpunaista, murrettua pinkkiä ja punaoranssia, värit on värjätty krappijuurella ja kokenillilla tai niiden sekoituksella.
Mallin nimi on Rakkaudella (minulta sinulle) ja sitä on nyt tarvikepakettina kaupassani.

IN ENGLISH
I have now finished another new mitten pattern which I have been knitting in January when we had very cold weather (it is now a little bit warmer though spring is not yet here). These mittens have similar side patterns as Oak Valley mittens, and the hearts in the middle are the same hearts by designed my mother as in Lucky Hearts or Blue Hearts mittens. I experimented with different colors and liked this combination best.
The colors in these mittens are dark brownish purple and red, muted pink  and winered, and orange red, and they are dyed with madder and cochineal or a combination of these two.
The name of these mittens is With Love (from me to you) and it is now available in my shop.

Oak Valley Mittens Tammikuja lapaset

Tässä on nyt uudet lapaset. Pidän puista ja tammista, joita meillä on pihatielläkin. Pidän myös ryijyistä ja olen pitkään halunnut saada lapasiin jotenkin samaa tunnelmaa mitä on vanhoissa  ryijyissä, joissa reunoissa on usein ns polvekeraita. Lapasissa vain ongelmana on se, että lankoja ei samalla kerroksella olisi hyvä olla kahta enempää, joten reunoihin ei voi laittaa eri väriä kuin keskelle. Omasta mielestäni onnistuin nyt kivasti yhdistämään reunapaneelit ja keskuskuvion. Lapasten tammikuvio on sama äitini tekemä tammi mikä on Syystammi-lapasissa.
Kokeilin aika montaa erilaista väriyhdistelmää purkaen ja neuloen uudelleen, muutamat lapaset tein valmiiksi asti torille myyntiinkin, ennenkuin päädyin näihin ja pidän näistä kovasti.
Näiden lapasten nimi on Tammikuja, ja niissä on 7 eri väriä: luonnonmustaa, kolmea luonnonruskeaa ja kolmea oliivinvihreää värjättynä samettijaloilla. Tarvikepakettia näihin lapasiin on nyt saatavana kaupassani.

IN ENGLISH
Now I have a new pair of mittens ready. I like trees and oaks which we have by our road. I also like old Finnish "ryijy" rugs, there isn't any proper English name for them. I have for a long time wanted to get the same feeling to our mittens as is in older "ryijy" (from 1600 or 1700 century) which have kind of panels on the sides and different patterns in the middle. With mittens there is a problem that I can't have different colors in the sides as in the middle, because I don't want to use more than two colors at a time. Now I'm very pleased how these mittens turned out! The oak pattern is the same as in Autumn Oak mittens, and it is made by my mother.
I tried quite a few color combinations before ending up to these, I ripped and knitted again, and also finished three pairs for the market to sell, before I was satisfied with these. I like these very much.

The name of these mittens is Oak Valley, and there are  seven different colors in the: natural black and three natural browns, and three olive greens dyed with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa.
There is a kit for these mittens now in my shop.

Here are some pictures of oaks (and maples) by our road and small valley, these are my inspiration. Oaks are great trees, they also provide the dyer with acorns, leaves and also bark, and some lichens fall off from the branches when the wind blows hard.

Tässä muutamia kuvia inspiraation lähteenä omasta tammikujastamme (ja vaahtera), pienessä notkossa. Tammet ovat hienoja puita, lisäksi niistä värjäri saa terhoja, lehtiä, kuortakin ja joskus niistä irtoaa tuulella rungossa ja oksilla kasvavia jäkäliä.

Autumn Oak- mittens Syystammi- lapaset

Olen neulonut lapasia viime aikoina. Yhtenä mallina tein Syystammi-lapaset uusilla väreillä. Aiemmin niiden värinä olivat kirjavat ruskeat, joita olin värjännyt hernekuukusilla, mutta hernekuukusilla on vaikea saada eri värjäyskerroilla samanlaisia värejä, varsinkin kun tavoitteena olivat kirjavat langat. Siksi tätä tarvikepakettia ei olekaan ollut saatavilla vähään aikaan.
Nyt uusina väreinä ovat hiukan punertavamman ruskeat värit mitä aiemmin, nämä on värjätty verihelttaseitikkien jaloilla. Kolmantena kuviovärinä on lampaan ruskea ja pohjavärinä lampaan musta. Syystammi-pakettia on nyt kaupassani ja torilla.
Uusia malleja on mielessä ja kokeilussa parikin, niistä lisää sitten kun ne valmistuvat mieleisekseni.

IN  ENGLISH
I have been knitting mittens. One of the first mittens I knit Autumn Oak-pattern with new colors. Previously Autumn Oak was knit with variegated browns dyed with mushroom Pisolithus arhizus, but it's been very difficult to get similar colors from that mushroom, especially when I tried for variegated color, so that is why I haven't been able to have Autumn Oak kit for sale lately. 
Now the new colors were more reddish brown, dyed with stems of  mushroon Cortinarius semisanguineus. The third pattern color is Natural Brown (sheep color) and the base color is Natural Black. I have this kit now in my shop and at the market.
I have couple of new patterns in my mind and on needles, more about them when they are finished and the way I want them.

Autumn has been very warm here this year, there is no snow yet, but there has been frost in the ground in some mornings.  Days are short, only about six hours of daylight, but one more week to go and then the days start to become longer again. 

Peony Mittens Pionilapaset

Olen tehnyt tätä pionilapasmallia jo pitkään, aina jokin kohta ei ollut hyvin, mutta vihdoin nyt malli ja värit tulivat mielestäni kohdalleen. Erilaisia kokeiluversioita näistä lapasista minulla oli jo viime kesänä torilla mukana, ja asiakkaat pitivät niistäkin vaikka itse olin sitä mieltä, että ne eivät olleet vielä valmiit.
Pionit ovat yksiä lempikukistani ja siksi halusin niitä myös lapasiin. Puutarhassani on monenlaisia pioneita, alla kuvissa oleva pioni (nimeltään 'Sorbet') oli inspiraation lähteenä näihin lapasiin, vaikka lapasmallissa olenkin käyttänyt hiukan taiteellista vapautta:)
Pionilapasiin on käytetty viittä eri luonnonväriä: kahta samettijalkavihreää, punainen värjätty krapilla ja kokenillilla, pinkinpunainen värjätty väriresedalla ja kokenillilla ja keltainen värjätty taulakäävillä.
Mallissa on pääosin vain kaksi väriä yhtä aikaa kerroksella, mutta kahdella kerroksella värejä on kolme, siitä kohtaa en pystynyt yksinkertaistamaan mallia.

I have had these mittens half ready for a long time, always something was not right and I had to knit another version, but finally now the pattern and colors are how I like them. I have had different versions of these mittens already at the market last summer, and people seemed to like them though they were not as perfect as these are.
Peonies are one of my favourite flowers, and that is why I wanted also to knit them in mittens. I have many kinds of peonies in my garden, the peony in the pictures below (it's called 'Sorbet') was the inspiration for these mittens, though I have taken some artistic liberties with the mittens:)
I have used five different colors dyed with natural dyes for these mittens: two different greens both dyed with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa, red dyed with madder and cochineal, pink dyed with weld and cochineal and yellow dyed with polypore Fomes fomentarius.
I tried to make the pattern as simple as possible, and most of the time there are only two colors in a row, but there are two rows with three colors.
I have now kits for these Peony Mittens in my shop. I hope you like them:)

Snowdrop Mittens Lumikello lapaset

Nyt lumikellolapaset ovat valmiina tarvikepakettina. En pystynyt päättämään mikä olisi paras pohjaväri, joten nyt näistä on kaksi versioita: toisen pohjaväri on luonnonindigolla värjätty tumma harmahtavan sininen (sininen näytti niin kivalta vihreän kanssa) ja toisen luonnollisempi tumma lampaan ruskea. Lumikellojen kukat ovat tietysti valkoisia ja lehdet ja varret sinivihreitä, värjätty väritattarella ja paatsamankuorella.
Rannekkeen lumikellot ovat puistolumikellon kerrottua muotoa ja isommat lumikellot sitten jotain korkeampaa hybridiä:)
Lapasten kuvio vaatii hiukan enemmän kokemusta kirjoneuleesta kuin yleensä lapasemme, koska näissä on paikoin melko pitkiä lankajuoksuja, jotka pitää osata sitoa niin, ettei lanka jää kiristämään tai sitten liian löysäksi takana. Samoin kolmella kerroksella on kaikki kolme väriä yhtä aikaa, muuten vain kaksi väriä, kuten yleensäkin lapasissamme.

Tarvikepaketteja on kaupassani, sinipohjainen on hiukan kalliimpi kuin kuin ruskeapohjainen, koska sinisessä on suurin osa langoista värjättyjä.

IN ENGLISH
Now my snowdrop mittens are ready and in my shop as mitten kits.
I couldn't decide which color was the best for the background, so there are two versions of these mittens. The other has dark greyish blue as background (the blue went so well with the green) and the other one is more natural looking with natural dark brown as background. The flowers are white, naturally, and leaves are blueish green dyed with japanese indigo and buckthorn bark.
The snowdrops in the cuff are double form of common snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis, and the bigger snowdrops are some of the taller hybrids:)

The pattern of these mittens is little more difficult, than our mittens usually, because there are long floats in the back and you need to know how to knit them so that the yarn will not be too tight or too loose. Also there are three rows where there are all three color at the same time, otherwise there are only two colors at the time.

The kits for these mittens are now in my shop, the blue version is little more expensive than the brown one, because in the blue there is more dyed yarn.

Above there are pictures of my snowdrops last year, these were the inspiration for the snowdrop  mittens.
The pictures were taken about this time a year ago, but this year the spring is late, and there is still a lot of snow in the ground. The first snowdrops are only coming up in the places where the snow has melted, the picture below was taken day before yesterday.

Evergreen Mittens Ikivihreä lapaset

Loppusyksyllä minulta pyydettiin vuodenaikalapasia, mutta vihreillä väreillä, kuten Kuusikko-lapasissa.
Tein silloin yhden kokeilun, ja tässä on nyt lopullinen väritys.
Lapasten nimi on Ikivihreä/Evergreen ja siinä on kolmea samettijalkavihreää ja luonnonbeigeä.
Väritys on hillittyä maanläheistä metsänvihreää, niinkuin samettijalkoja kasvavassa metsässäkin.
Lapasiin on saatavilla tarvikepaketti kaupassani ja otan niitä mukaan myös ensi viikonlopun Käsityötarvikemarkkinoille.

IN ENGLISH
Late last year I was asked if I had a kit for seasons- series mittens, but with green colors like in the Trees- mittens. Here is now the final coloring.
The mittens name is Evergreen, and there are three greens dyed with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa, and Natural Beige.  Colors are down-to-earth olive greens, like the forest where those mushrooms grow.
There is now a kit for these mittens in my shop, and I will also have them with me next week-end at the Craft Fair.

Spring Spirit Mittens Kevät-lapaset

Pakkanen paukkuu ja lunta on taas ihan riittävästi, ylläolevat kuvat ovat mieheni ottamia toissayöltä.
Siemenluetteloiden katseleminen ja kylmäkäsittelyyn kylvettävien siementen käsittely vie ajatukset kevääseen, Enää ehkä kuusi viikkoa niin lumikellot kukkivat ja viimeistään kymmenen viikon päästä esikot ja valkovuokot ovat kukassa.

Right now it is cold, -12°C, and a lot of snow. DH had taken these snow pictures night before last, when there was full moon. I am hoping for spring: browsing seed catalogues and sowing perennial seeds  for cold stratification keeps my own thoughts occupied. Six more weeks before the snowdrops flower and after ten weeks the daffodils and wood anemones are flowering. These pictures are from last spring.

Olen neulonut lapaset kevään väreillä, keltaista, valkoista ja vihreitä. Keltaiset ja kellanvihreä on värjätty väriresedalla ja tummempi vihreä on värjätty  väritattarella ja väriresedalla.
Näiden lapasten nimi on Kevät ja niihin on nyt myös tarvikepaketti kaupassani.

I have knitted a pair of mittens with spring colors, yellow, white and greens. The yellow and yellowish green are dyed with weld and darker green is dyed with japanese indigo and weld.
These mittens are called Spring Spirit, and there is a kit available for them now in my shop.

Mascha's Zigzag gloves Maschan talvisormikkaat

Saksalainen Mascha on taas neulonut ihanat sormikkaat langastamme, tällä kertaa värjäämättömästä Maahisesta. Täällä hänen blogissaan on kuva niistä ja Ravelrystä löytyy ilmainen ohje niihin. Tekniikkana on ruotsalainen "twined knitting", josta oli myös kappale Knitting around the world- kirjassa.

Maahista löytyykin paremmin lampaan värisenä, koska aikani kuluu pääasiassa Aarnin värjäämiseen, kaikkea ei ehdi:) Ja tarkoitus on vyyhdittää Maahisesta myös pienempiä värjäämättömiä vyyhtejä kauppaan loppuviikosta.

Mascha from Germany has knitted again wonderful gloves from our yarn, this time from undyed Maahinen. Here, in her blog you can see the picture of them and you can find a free pattern for them in Raverly. She has used Swedish "twined knitting" -technique, of which there is also a chapter in Knitting Around the World -book.

I have more undyed Maahinen, in sheep colors, than dyed colors, that is because all my time goes to dyeing Aarni.:)

However I will make also smaller skeins of undyed colors of Maahinen later this week for my shop.

Mascha's Twined mittens

Saksalainen Mascha on tehnyt kauniit lapaset, joihin hän käytti Maahinen-lankaamme. Neuletekniikka on lapasissa ollut "twined knitting", eli kahdella päällä neulomista, joka toinen silmukka toisella ja joka toinen toisella, jolloin neuleesta tulee paksumpaa ja venymättömämpää kuin tavallisesta sileästä neuleesta. Tästä tekniikasta on enemmän 2005 Knitty- lehdessä, englanniksi täällä.

Mascha from Germany has knitted beautiful traditional style mittens, and she has used our Maahinen yarn for the mittens. She used Twined knitting-technique for the mittens, which makes the mittens warmer and firmer. You can read more about this technique in an editorial in 2005 Knitty, here.

Autumn Fire Mittens Syksyn hehku lapaset

Lunta senkun tulee lisää ja pakkasta, mutta olen tehnyt syksyvärisiä lapasia. Kolmas versio eri väreillä tuotti lapaset joihin olen tyytyväinen, näissä hehkuvat syksyn lämpimät ruskavärit ja kuitenkin loppusyksyn pimeys hiipii myös näkyviin.

Lapasten nimi on Syksyn hehku, ja näissä on viittä eri väriä: päävärinä on vaalea verihelttaseitikeillä värjätty oranssi, lisäksi on tummempaa punaoranssia, samettijaloilla värjättyä tumman  vihreää, luonnonindigolla ja kokenillilla värjättyä tummaa violettia sekä luonnonmustaa.

We've had snow and winter here already for a month, but I have been knitting autumn inspired mittens. I knitted several pairs and the third color combination gave me the mittens I wanted: the fire of autumn colors together with the creeping darkeness of late autumn before the snow lightens up the landscape again.
The name of these mittens is Autumn Fire and there are five different colors in them: the main color is light orange dyed with mushroom Cortinarius semisanguineus, the other colors are darker reddish orange, also dyed with the same mushroom, dark green dyed with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa, dark purple dyed with natural indigo and cochineal and natural black.

Winter Charm -mittens Talven taikaa -lapaset

Tässä ensimmäiset lapaset uudesta vuodenaikojen mukaan nimetystä lapassarjasta:  tämän mallin nimi on Talven taikaa.
Yllä oleva kuva on mieheni ottama kuva viime talvena ja siinä näkyy talven taianomainen kaamostunnelma. Samaa hämyistä tunnelmaa halusin näihin talvilapasiin, yksinkertaista, pelkistynyttä ja hiljaista.
Väreinä on luonnonvalkoista, luonnonharmaata ja tummaa harmaansinistä, värjätty luonnonindigolla.

Here are the first mittens from our new Seasons series:  these mittens are named  Winter Charm.
DH had taken the picture above last winter, and I think it shows really well the dusky light we have in winter when the days are short and there isn't much sun, the feeling is  magical.
I wanted to try to capture the same simple and peaceful atmosphere to these mittens.
The colors are natural white, natural grey and dark greyish blue, dyed with natural indigo from Indigofera-plants.

Hearts Mittens

Olen nyt tammikuussa tehnyt erilaisia kokeiluversioita uusiin lapasiin hiukan muuttaen äitini vanha mallia, ja nyt on valmiina kaksi eriväristä versiota samasta mallista.
Punasävyinen on nimeltään Lucky Hearts, Onnenapila, pohjavärinä on lampaan luonnonmusta ja kuviovärit on värjätty kokenillilla ja krapilla.
Sinisävyinen on Blue Hearts ja pohjavärinä on tumma harmaansininen ja kuviot ovat vaaleampia sinisiä, kaikki värjätty itse kasvattamallani väritattarella.
En osaa päättää kummasta värityksestä pidän itse eniten:) Pehmeät luonnonindigon siniset ovat niin harmonisia ja sininen pohjaväri on juuri minun makuuni, toisaalta myös voimakkaampi sävykäs punainen roosan kanssa sopivat myös hyvin yhteen ja tulevat esille hyvin luonnonmustalta pohjalta.
Kaupastani on nyt saatavilla tarvikepaketteja näihin lapasiin.
Ruutupiirros tulee olemaan värillinen, jotta sitä olisi helpompi lukea kuin mustavalkoisin symbolein tehtyä. Tarkoitus olisi ajan kanssa muuttaa kaikkien lapastemme ruutupiirrokset värillisiksi.

Í have knitted some new mittens, a few different versions, before I knew which one was the right one. This pattern is based on my mother's old pattern, I have changed it some to get the right number of stitches.
The mittens with red colors are called Lucky Hearts, and the basic color is natural black, patterns colors are dyed with cochineal and madder.
The blue mittens are called Blue Hearts and the basic color is dark greyish blue, pattern colors lighter blues, all dyed with my home grown japanese indigo.
I can't decide which colors I like the best:) I think both are really nice, the subtle blues of natural indigo on a darker blue background, or the warm semisolid red and pink on natural black from sheep, all natural colors go so well together.

Both of these mittens are now available as a kit in my shop,.
The chart will be colored so that it would be easier to read than the black and white chart with symbols. We will slowly change all the charts of our mittens to the colored ones.

New year- new mittens Uusi vuosi -uudet lapaset

Tein ennen joulua näitä lapasia. Malli pohjautuu vanhojen raanujen ruusukas-kuvioon äitini idean pohjalta. Väreinä on lampaan omia ruskeita ja sinisiä värjätty morsingolla ja indigolla. Ohje on naisten keskikoisiin lapasiin, mutta kuviota on helppo suurentaa tai pienentää tarpeen mukaan. Tarvikepaketti näistä löytyy kaupastani.

I made these mittens before Chirstmas. The design is based on my mother's idea from a pattern of old Finnish weaved rugs, but I am sure it is universal. When made with looms it is called ruusukas in Finnish, but I don't know what it is called in English. This is quite easy pattern to knit, the graph in the kit is for women's medium size mittens, but the pattern is easy to make bigger or smaller.
The colors are natural browns from the sheep and blues dyes with indigo and woad.
You can find a kit for these mittens in my shop and the name of the mittens is Blue Tradition.

Cloudberry Mittens Hilla lapaset

Tässä uusi lapasmalli, nimeltään Hilla. Sen lisäksi, että se on yksi lempimarjoistani, joita pitää joka talveksi saada pakastimeen, niin näitä lapasia oli mukava neuloakin:)
Hilla-kuvion on äitini Liisa Rajala tehnyt meille jo 90-luvun alussa, ja nyt muokkasin hiukan mallia ja muutamien koelapasten tekemisen jälkeen tämä väriyhdistelmä oli mieheni ja minun mielestä se oikea. Väreinä on samettijalalla värjättyjä vihreitä, luonnonvalkoista ja beigeä sekä verihelttaseitikkioranssia ja toisena oranssina tammenkuorilla puretettua krapilla saatua väriä.

Here I have a pair of new mittens, the design is called Cloudberry. Cloudberries are one of my favourite berries, I always need to have them in the freezer for winter treats.. and these mittens were a pleaseure to knit, too:)
My mother Liisa Rajala had designed the pattern of cloudberries already in the beginning of the 90s, and now I modified the mittens a little, and after making couple of test mittens this color combination was the one to DH and me. The colors are natural white and beige, two greens dyed with mushrooms Tapinella atrotomentosa and one orange dyed with mushroom Cortinarius semisanguineus and the other was dyed with madder on oak bark mordanted yarn.

Mascha's Danish Mittens

Viime viikolla oli hienot syksyilmat, ja minä olin sängyn pohjalla suurimman osan viikkoa.. flunssassa ja kuumeessa. Nyt alkaa elämä voittaa, mutta täytyy ottaa vielä hiukan varovasti, ettei tule jälkitauteja.
Ennen sairastumista olin edelleen kerännyt sinisiä värejä puutarhasta, värjännyt niitä ja myös sitten sinisen päälle keltaista. Tarkoitukseni oli saada ihan yhtä tiettyä vihreää, mutta niinkuin aina, kun jotain haluaisi, ei sen uudelleenvärjäys onnistu. Näissä kahdella värillä värjätyissä se on entistä vaikeampaa, kun molempien pitäisi tulla samalaisina. Ja vielä erityisesti mitä vaaleampi väri on sitä helpommin sävyerot näkyvät siinä.

Tätä vihreää olisin tarvinnut, koska saksalainen Masha, joka oli tehnyt vuosi sitten Bloom-lapaset, on taas tehnyt kauniit lapaset viime talvena minulta ostamistaan langoista, ja hän on myös tehnyt niihin ohjeen, joka on saatavana ilmaiseksi Ravelryssa, lapasten nimi on Danish Mittens. Onnittelut Mascha! Kunhan onnistun, niin myös näihin lapasiin tulee olemaan saatavilla lankalajitelma, tosin mitä todennäköisimmin vihreä ei ole aivan samanlainen vaan hiukan tummempi. Ehkä reilun viikon päästä:)

Last week was the perfect autumn weather for outdoor work and mushroom hunting, and I was in bed most of the week, in fever and flu:( Now I am better, but I still have to take it easy, so that the flu doesn't come back.
Before getting sick, I had harvested blue from the garden, dyed blue and also yellow on top of the green trying to get a color I dyed last year.. with no luck. It is even more difficult to get the same shade with a color that is dyed combining two different colors, as both need to be the same, and the ligher the color is, the more impossible it is for me.

I wanted to get that green because Mascha from Germany, who a year ago made the Bloom-mittens, had again made the most beautiful mittens called Danish Mittens from the yarns she had bought from me last winter. Congratulations Mascha! She has made instructions for these mittens and you can get it for free in Ravelry. Her name is there Mascha2 and the pattern is in the library as Danish Mittens. I think within two weeks I'll have a selection of yarns available in my shop also for these mittens.. but the green will be slightly different:)

Thread of Life- mittens Elämänlanka-lapaset

Tein lapaset uusilla väreillä tarvikepakettia varten.
Mallin on meille 1993 muokannut Mervi Kanninen vanhojen perinnekuvioiden pohjalta. Samalla kuviolla meillä on myös Ruusutarha-lapaset ja tämä Elämänlanka oli myös aiemmin hiukan eri värityksellä. Nyt sain tehtyä omasta mielestäni niin hyviä vihreitä ja punaisia, että ne halusivat tulla näihin lapasiin, parhaimmillaan elämä on kirkkaita värejä, joukossa vähän murretumpaakin ja tummaakin :)
Väreinä on lampaan musta pohja, ja langat on värjätty krapilla, verihelttaseitikillä, japanilaisella indigolla yhdistettynä pietaryrttiin ja lepänkuoripuretuksella värjätyllä krapilla.

I knitted new mittens and they are now available as a kit with yarn and instruction.
Mervi Kanninen has modified this pattern for us in 1993 from traditional Finnish pattern, with white, burgundy, pink and greens it is called Rosegarden and now when I got new nice colors, I decided to use this pattern again. The name of these mittens is Thread of Life, bright, muted and dark colors all together:)
The base color is natural black and pattern colors are dyed with madder, mushroom Cortinarius semisanguineus, japanese indigo combined with tansy and madder again but mordanted only with alder bark.

New mittens Uudet lapaset

Kevääseen on vielä pitkä matka, mutta kukkia voi ajatella myös neuloessa:)
Tässä uusia äitini lapasmalleja, joista on nyt tarvikepaketit myös nettikaupassani.
Oikeanpuoleinen on nimeltään Kellot, muistoja kesäisestä kukkaniitystä tai tienpenkan kissankelloista. Kellojen sininen on värjätty väritattarella (japanilainen indigo) ja vihreä samettijaloilla.
Vasemmanpuolimmaisen inspiraationa ovat olleet aikaisin toukokuussa puutarhassa kukkivat palloesikot. Vihreä lapasissa on värjätty edelleen samettijaloilla, kahta erilaista vihreää ja kukkien väri kokenillilla. Lapasten nimi on Palloesikko.

It is still many months before spring comes, but I can think of flowers even when knitting:)
Here are my mothers new mittens, and there are also kits for them in my shop.
The on on the right is called Bellflowers, I think of summer meadows when looking at them, or harebells (Campanula rotundifolia) growing by little roads. The blue in the flowers is dyed with japanese indigo and green with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa.
The inspiration for the other mittens has been Drumstick primroses (Primula denticulata) that are growing in the garden, they are one of the first primroses that flower in the spring. There are two greens, both dyed with mushroom Tapinella atrotomentosa and the color of the flowers is dyed with cochineal. The name of these mittens is just Primroses.

If you want to get your order outside Europe before Christmas in Economy mail, they have to be sent at the latest Monday Dec 1st and I recommend the same to Europe, even though Finnish mail says that Dec 8th is the last day to send mail to Europe in Economy mail.

Autumn Oak Mittens Syystammi-lapaset

Tein hernekuukusilla värjätyistä langoista tammi-lapaset. Kokeilin muutamaakin muuta pohjaväriä, mutta purin kokeilut ja parhaalta minusta näytti luonnonmusta pohja. Siitä erilaiset kellanruskeat nousevat kauniisti esille ja värit näyttävät juuri samalta kuin ruskan kellastamat tammen lehdet:)
Tein samoista langoista myös tarvikepaketteja kauppaani, näitä värejä ei riitä kovin pitkälle, mutta nyt paketteja on jonkin verran:)

I knitted mittens with the yarns I had dyed with mushroom Pisolithus arhizus. I tried first couple of other basic colors for these mittens, but ended up frogging them and made a pair with natural sheep black as a basic color, I think that is so good with almost any naturally dyed color.)
These mittens are called Autum Oak- mittens, because I think the color is just like autumn color in leaves of oaks in my garden.
I had enough of these yarns to make a limited number of kits which are now available in my shop.
