Asklöv hat and Betua hat and mittens

Loppukesän ja syksyn aikana on julkaistu kaksi neulemallia, jotka on tehty meidän langoistamme. 

IN ENGLISH
During this autumn two patterns have been published, which have been knitted with our yarn.

Pom Pom Magazinen no 18 on Asklöv-pipo, suunnittelija Nicolina Lindsten. Pipo on tehty Velhosta ja siinä on käytetty luonnonvalkoista ja paatsamankuorella värjättyä keltaista lankaa. Englanninkielinen ohje malliin löytyy tuosta lehdestä, jota voi ostaa joko paperisena tai digitaalisena täältä. Muutenkin lehdessä on useita tosi mukavia malleja, ja koko tuo numero on omistettu luonnonväreillä värjätyille langoille. Itselleni tämä lehti oli mielenkiintoinen uusi tuttavuus, ja suosittelen sitä lämpimästi.

IN ENGLISH
In Pom Pom Maganize no 18 there is Asklöv hat by Nicolina Lindsten, which is knitted with Velho. It has Natural White and Yellow dyed with buckthorn bark. You can find the instruction for the hat in the magazine, issue 18, which you can buy either in paper version or in digital form here. All issue 18 was dedicated to yarns dyed with natural dyes, and there are also many other really nice designs and patterns in that magazine. This was the first time I read it, and I was very impressed by it, I can warmly recommend Pom Pom Magazine. Photo below is by Pom Pom Magazine/Rachel Hayton.

Toinen langoistamme tehty kaunis malli on Katrine Birkenwasserin Betua Hat and Mittens. Siihen ohje löytyy englanniksi Ravelrystä, täältä. Lankoina Katrine oli käyttänyt tummanvihreää Aarnia ja sienillä värjättyjä oranssin selectionin lankoja. Tekniikka, millä hän oli neulonut nämä, oli minulle uusi, ja kontrasti vihreän ja oranssin välillä tuo mallin kuvion tosi hyvin esille. Hieno!

IN ENGLISH
Another beautiful pattern made from our yarns is Betua Hat and Mittens by Katrine Birkenwasser. You can find it in Ravelry, here. Katrine has used Aarni for it, green dyed with japanese indigo and goldenrod, and orange selection, dyed with mushrooms. Her pattern brings out the contrast with the colours very nicely, and the technique she has used was new to me.  Great!

Blanket from left over yarns Peitto tähdelangoista

Ystäväni Marjatta oli tehnyt minulle lämpimän peiton pienistä pätkistä tähteeksi jääneistä luonnonväreillä värjätyistä langoistani. Onpa hieno, eikö olekin:)

My friend Marjatta had made a blanket for me from many small bits of my left over yarns, all dyed with natural dyes. Isnt't is great and warm, too:)

Gerda's blanket

Gerda Hollannista lähetti minulle kuvia isosta peitosta minkä hän oli virkannut meidän langoistamme.

Gerda from Netherlands sent me pictures of a big blanket she had crocheted from our yarns, Riihivilla Aarni. It looks very nice how all the naturally dyed colors show up from natural white background:)

Northern Knits Gifts

Tänään oli postilaatikossa mukava kirja: Lucinda Guyn uusin kirja Northern Knits Gifts, Thoughtful Projects inspired by folk traditions. 20 pientä neuleprojektia, joiden inspiraation lähteenä on ollut Skandinavinen neuleperintö. Mallit eivät ole suoraan perinteisiä, vaan ennemminkin perinteet ovat olleet inspiraation lähteinä näihin neuleisiin, ja malleissa on käytetty perinteisiä neuletekniikoita. Kustakin mallista Lucinda kertoo mistä inspiraatio siihen on tullut ja siihen liittyviä traditioita ja historiaa. Pohjoismaiden lisäksi myös Viro ja Fär-saaret ovat edustettuna tässä kirjassa, ja kunkin maan kohdalla on 2-3 neulemallia. Mielestäni mallit kuvastavat hyvin sitä mielikuvaa mikä itselläni on eri maista, vaikka malleja ei ole monta. Kukin projekti on myös toteutettu kyseisestä maasta tulevilla langoilla, ja langoiksi on valittu vain 100% villaa, monet langat pieniltä tuottajilta alkuperäisistä lammasroduista, tai tuottajilta joilla on pitkä perinteet.
Suomalaiseksi langaksi Lucinda Guy oli valinnut Riihivilla Aarnin, josta on myös kansikuvan lapaset ja pipo (Tovio Mittens and Hat) tehty. Aarnista on kirjassa myös lasten villapusero ja pipo (Onni Child's Sweater and Hat). Kiitos Lucinda, toivon hyvää menestystä kirjalle!

Today there was an anticipated book in the mailbox: Lucinda Guy's newest book Northern Knits Gifts, Thoughtful Projects inspired by folk traditions. 20 small knitting projects, inspired by Scandinavian knitting unique heritage and history. The patterns are not replicate of any original knits from museums, but rather inspired by them and made to contemporary projects. The techniques used are traditional to each country, and Lucinda tells about each project about the traditions and history connected to it, and where she has gotten the inspiration. 
Besides Scandinavia, also Estonia and Faroe Islands are included, and there are 2-3 projects to each country. I think Lucinda Guy has succeeded well in getting the feel of each country's knitting.
All yarns used for these projects are made of 100% pure wool, and many are from small sustainable suppliers using indigenous sheep breeds, or from manufacturers with a long history.
Lucinda Guy has chosen our yarn, Riihivilla Aarni, from Finland. The mittens and hat (Tovio Mittens and Hat) on the cover of the book are made of Aarni, and in the book there is  also Onni Child's Sweater and Hat knitted with Aarni. I think they reflect Finnish stranded knitting well. Thank you Lucinda, I wish all the success to this book!

Lucinda Guy's Mittens

Brittiläinen Lucinda Guy on tehnyt Aarni -langastamme lapasmallin, Folk Star Mittens, johon häneltä voi ostaa ohjeen. Täällä on myös linkki hänen blogiinsa, missä sama malli on tehtynä eri väreillä. Mallista saa helposti monen näköisen vaihtelemalla lankojen väriä. Viime viikon pakkasilla lämpimiä lapasia tarvitaan Euroopassakin, puhumattakaan pohjolan pakkasista:).

IN ENGLISH 
Lucinda Guy has knitted a nice and warm pair of mittens from our Aarni yarn, they are called Folk Star Mittens, and you buy pattern for them from her. Here is also a link to her blog where the same mittens are knitted with different colorway. The look of these mittens is easy to change by changing the colorway. Last week was cold even in Europe, and warm mittens were needed, not to speak of the cold here in the north:)

Mascha's Star Gloves

Ravelryssa nimimerkki mascha2 on tehnyt Maahinen langastamme kauniit tähtikuviolliset kirjoneulesormikkaat, joihin löytyy maksullinen ohje Ravelrysta. Oikein kivat, pidän erityisesti tuosta rannekkeesta, ja kirjoneuleena ne ovat myös lämpimät.

Mascha2 in Ravelry has knitted very beautiful gloves from our Maahinen yarn. She has also made a pattern for them, which you can purchase from Raverly. Very nice gloves, I like especially the cuff part, and the stranded knitting makes the gloves warm..
