After flowering the plant dies, so it does not survive through winter.Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-73216247649971555712013-09-22T18:34:11.762+03:002013-09-22T18:34:11.762+03:00I was interested in what you are saying about keep...I was interested in what you are saying about keeping a Japanese indigo plant in a pot in your greenhouse for the next year - how is this working out in Finland? Is your greenhouse heated? I live in the UK and have an unheated greenhouse and I am wondering if this might be worth trying.Heidihttp://seagreenandsapphire.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-40527689171074105412013-08-23T07:21:02.670+03:002013-08-23T07:21:02.670+03:00Thanks Mazzaus, I get good reds from it:) The temp...Thanks Mazzaus, I get good reds from it:) The temp is between 20-30C.Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-40247392470818950602013-08-23T07:18:56.263+03:002013-08-23T07:18:56.263+03:00Hi Neki,

Hi India, I got seeds for these plants from the USA, and I think there the round leaf type is more common. Many dyers have got it from Elisabeth Merrill, mine came from a friend whose plants came from her. The round leaf type is very rich in indigo, but it requires longer growing season which is a problem here. The pointed leaf type was sold from Hudson Seeds, and I believe that is also the type sold in Europe. Senbon has leaves which are more pointed, and that is from Rowland Rickett's and I believe it is an original japanese variety (but here they will most likely hybridize with the other varieties I'm growing.. I don't know if it is good or bad). The other varieties don't have names, and it is strange that they all are the same species, but they all produce blue. I wish I knew more about the different japanese indigoes, there seems to be quite a little information or studies about different types, at least I haven't found it online. It would be good to have correct names for these varieties! Perhaps there is more information about these in Japan, but it is difficult to find it from here (when you don't speak japan or understand the letters):(Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-20924950499649103752013-08-18T00:12:38.292+03:002013-08-18T00:12:38.292+03:00that's interesting, i hadn't come across t...that's interesting, i hadn't come across the round-leafed variety beforeindia flinthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01510066677833871579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-88795859773382454642013-08-17T19:36:33.341+03:002013-08-17T19:36:33.341+03:00Kaunis kukka väritattarella, ja kasvutapa!
