If I had dipped the first skein more times (4-6) instead of adding new skeins to the bath, I think the first color would have become darker. Also if I had used more leaves the color would have become darker. In my experiments madder or henna has helped the reduction and I get more color when I use them. Perhaps with madder and henna also the vat turns into fermentation vat if kept for several days.
You have very interesting web site, I wish I could read spanish:(Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-69757555175867256752015-03-29T21:50:32.241+03:002015-03-29T21:50:32.241+03:00Thanks Leena! We have always used the madder root and the fructose separately. We will on investigating to get darker shades using fructose! Jossain vaiheessa tuntui, et värjäyssivustoja on niin paljon, et miksi ihmeessä minäkin niitä kirjoittelisin, nyt palasin kuitenkin aiheen pariin uudelleen, toimivathan ne itselleni ainakin erinomaisena päiväkirjana ja niitä on hauskaa kirjoitella.
jään odottelemaan mahdollista palautettasi, siitä jo etukäteen kiittäen ja ryhdyn kirjoittelemaan vaihteeksi hieman tiikerikaunosilmästä värikasvina, on niin harmaa räntäsateinen päivä, et pakko päästä ihanien kukkakuvien pariin hetkeksi:)) Ilona Winebridgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12255116456106741339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-69060129101658778572015-01-22T11:10:48.272+02:002015-01-22T11:10:48.272+02:00Kiitos Ilona.

I don't know what in fructose vat makes that color, but it washes out, and the blue is left. The same thing happens with natural indigo powder with fructose.Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-67414419513035655292015-01-21T20:36:00.985+02:002015-01-21T20:36:00.985+02:00I would also like to know the answer to that! I think also with natural indigo powder you need a lot more indigo in fructose vat to get the same hue and still it doesn't dye as much yarn.Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-87536103025779578842015-01-21T19:33:04.882+02:002015-01-21T19:33:04.882+02:00Thanks so much for keeping such careful notes, Lee...Thanks so much for keeping such careful notes, Leena, and for sharing the information. Now I am curious why the fructose vat doesn't give as much color as a hydrosulfite vat, from the same amount of leaves. The colors are very pretty, just not as deep as one would expect.Sandra Rudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04691078578557110217noreply@blogger.com
