I think the red in it's roots are tannins which may be difficult to get to attach to wool, it may work better with leather or cellulose fibers, but go ahead and try it, experimenting is fun:)Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-52372144631459438842015-06-13T17:12:22.501+03:002015-06-13T17:12:22.501+03:00Hi Leena!

We have a plant, that I am sure you have in Finland too, Potentilla erecta, "rätvänä" in Finnish, and a lot of names in Norwegian, including bloodroot, but the official being "tepperot. Here in our area we call it "smørblomst" (butter flower).

I read (in Norwegian) that the root contains tormentilla red and have been used to dye leather red.

I am sure you know about this already.

I dyed some dull pale blue/grey yarn with rhubarb leaves. The color became so beautiful, a pale forest green, so now I am hooked! That was my first ever attempt to natural dyeing.
Now I will go out and find the bloodroot, potentilla erecta, and see what magic I can make with it.

Thank you for an extremely inspiring blog!

Kind regards
Rune ThomassenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
