Or is the difference only in the way the barks are dried or their age?Leenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14266878515009058403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-53028272850450995842008-02-19T00:44:00.000+02:002008-02-19T00:44:00.000+02:00Firstly congratulations on getting the red it is s...Firstly congratulations on getting the red it is such beautiful colour, more of a red than I got I wonder whether that is water

I have been having problems too! I tried the buckthorn bark first as I did not have any alder buckthorn. Now I have alder buckthorn I have got no red from it. I thought like you it might be because the ph dropped down to neutral but now Iam wondering. However I will try again. It is interesting that with the buckthorn bark the one where the pH was a little lower gave a clearer red. I will have to try again. You keep very detailed records too-quite put me to shame.Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05597640040480685246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-8941075643036910352008-02-16T23:24:00.000+02:002008-02-16T23:24:00.000+02:00Wish I had buckthorn, although I do have tons of a...Wish I had buckthorn, although I do have tons of alders here, not the buckthorn alders...the colors are wonderful...great post great dyeing....cAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-86972412806225434402008-02-15T12:50:00.000+02:002008-02-15T12:50:00.000+02:00Hi LeenaFirst, you have a wonderful blog!i have bee...Hi Leena
First,you have a wonderful blog!
i have been dyeing with buckthorn-not alder buckthorn-in a slow cooker.I tried fermenting the colour and had a reddish brown. Then i heated the dye up to 80c ,put in my wool and silk and when it had reached a yellow colour( WITH NO MORDANT) took it out and dipped it in oak wood ash-immediately i had a vibrant pinkish red.I have washed this and the colour still remains.i wonder if the buckthorn is better than the alder buckthorn?fiberfanatichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09788646870607380594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9129357734481422196.post-37932030084657192802008-02-13T18:07:00.000+02:002008-02-13T18:07:00.000+02:00Tuo olisi hyvä tieto, että faulbaum on sama paatsa...Tuo olisi hyvä tieto, että faulbaum on sama paatsama kuin täkäläinenkin, eli sitten ero värissä voisi johuta kuoreten iästä TAI siitä, että ne eivät käyneet niin hyvin.

Faulbaumrinde tarkoittaa yksinkertaisesti paatsamankuoria.
